Truckee Meadows Pickleball Club was initially built off of weekly clinics that both introduced the game to new people and helped people become better players quickly so the games became much more fun.

These clinics are designed to help 2.0 players move up to 2.5, 2.5 up to 3.0, 3.0 up to 3.5, and 3.5 up to 4.0 skill and play levels.

While they are open to everyone, one of the benefits of being a club member is that they are either free or at a significantly reduced rate if we have to rent a gym for the clinics.

TMPC currently has the facility at The Boy and Girls Club on Foster Drive on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am till 2 pm. It has typically been clearing out between 12 noon and 12:30. This makes it ideal for holding clinics as there are available courts and it won’t impact any play. That may change as we get further into winter, but that is the current plan.

I’m also looking into renting Plumas gym on a Saturday evening for those that work during the week but would also like to attend a clinic. We will need to charge a small fee so we cover the cost of the gym.

I will primarily be holding a time of instruction covering how to hold the paddle, stroke mechanics, point strategy basics, dinking, serves, and returns.

Court time will consist of specialized game style drills such as Dinking games, special points games, 61, focus, and other game/drills you will be able to play whenever you get a few together to do them instead of just getting into a traditional game.

You will need to bring your own paddle, balls and nets will be furnished at the facility.

I look forward to meeting all of you,
Nicholas St Jon

December 12th – first session
Congratulations to the 14 people who was able to join us today for the first of many new weekly clinics at the Boys and Girls Club from 12:30 to 2 pm.

I started by giving verbal instructions on how to hold the paddle, stroke mechanics using the linear stroke method, basic strategies and then we worked on serves, return of serve, receivers getting to the kitchen line, and finally serve team starting the point.

I covered my 3 basic rules:

  1. Never miss a serve, its the one hit on the ball you have 100% control of, if you don’t get the serve in you can’t score a point
  2. Never miss a return, if you don’t get the ball back in play, there is no way of getting a side out so you can serve and score a point
  3. Always make your opponents move their feet, this is a game about balance, and the more you can move your opponent, the more chances of getting them off balance

I had a lot of great feedback and look forward to seeing everyone next week Thursday December 19th at 12:30 pm at the Boys and Girls Club. Hoping to get 4 courts again like today so increased the number for the clinic to 18 people.

Thank you everyone for making this first session such a huge success!
